Mitragyna speciosa, an evergreen plant in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia, is the source of natural kratom.  You can take kratom as a tablet, capsule, and extract, or you can mix it into a beverage. Tea can also be made from dried leaves. The extract is the most usual method of intake.

Currently, kratom is legal in Missouri. Except for Alton and Jerseyville, both right across the border, have outlawed it.

Although, there are certain legal difficulties regarding this plant that must be constantly monitored. There was a controversy in 2019 to outlaw and control the substance.

As a result, senators proposed two proposals in 2020. One would restrict it, while the other would outright prohibit its usage in Missouri.

The Legality Of Kratom In Missouri State

Before the state of Missouri passed legislation prohibiting the use of kratom, the herb was relatively unknown.

In 2019, many people including FDA (Food and Drug Administration) consider kratom the cause of multiple fatalities, overdoses, and ailments in Missouri.

As a result, the counties of St. Charles, St. Louis, and Jefferson have joined together to argue whether to ban or regulate the kratom.

However, no new bills relating to kratom are in work in Franklin County. In Missouri, some people support a prohibition, while others recognize the potential advantages of kratom.

Some admitted that the problem was not with the kratom alone, but with the combination of drugs. The legislators were increasingly interested in regulating the kratom sector.

The prohibition in St Charles was lifted at this time. They are currently thinking about how to regulate this plant. On August 26th, St Louis County authorized regulated kratom sales, whereas Jefferson County has yet to make a judgment on kratom.

The Kratom Consumer Protection Act was introduced in January 2020. The goal of this law is to control kratom sales in Missouri and other states and make the market safer for consumers.

Another bill was presented again in January that would make kratom illegal and categorize it as a Schedule I substance.

This bill regulates the use of the Mitragyna speciosa herb, which will update the “Clean Missouri” clause. On January 27, 2020, the House Committee unanimously endorsed the bill, and it was then referred to the entire House for a vote. The parliamentarians will then submit the amendment back to the people if it passes.

Some politicians argue that because more than 60 percent of voters voted yes in 2018, a second referendum on the identical issue would be unjust.
