Cannabis Concentrates
[product-block]
Consuming hemp-derived products is undoubtedly on the rise over the last few years, and this is where manufacturers can get truly creative with their inventions and come up with an abundance of different products, one of them being cannabis concentrates – products like our gummies, vape cartridges, honey, balms, salves, and creams are all considered some forms of cannabis concentrates in one way or another.
And, it doesn’t stop there – cannabis concentrates also come in many different shapes and forms! We’re all about ‘the more, the merrier’, but sometimes, having so many options can be a bit confusing. This is why we find it essential to educate customers on things related to consuming a particular product.Â
So, what exactly are cannabis concentrates?Â
The cannabis plant has trichomes all over it, and these trichomes resemble very tiny, thin fibers. Trichomes are responsible for carrying the distinguishing characteristics of the plant. Cannabis concentrates are what happens when you place cannabis into a solvent to extract a particular component from the trichomes.
The final extract is going to be your concentrate. This concentrate can contain the full cannabinoid and terpene profile of the hemp plant. Or, it can be just one particular component (such as Delta 8 THC).Â
What Is Shatter?
Slabs of shatter are practically the same thing as dabs; these are the products that we end up with when we place cannabis into butane hash oil (BHO). With just a little bit of additional magic in the Grassroots Harvest laboratory, we end up with a solid matter of pure Delta 8 THC concentrate – with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC, of course!Â
Although the terms are frequently used interchangeably, perhaps there is one minor difference between dabs and shatter. It lies in their consistency. Dabs look quite similar to wax, while shatter is usually solid.
How To Take Delta 8 THC Shatter
Just like dab, the slabs of shatter are also consumed using a method called dabbing. Usually, this is using an oil rig (aka a dab rig), a pipe, or a water pipe.Â
Dab Rig
Smoking shatter with a dab rig is the most popular method of consuming it. It’s also the only technique that the majority of the consumers know how to use. Consisting of a glass chamber, a nail, and a dome, dab rigs make it easy to get the most out of it.Â
The glass chamber is a part of the rig that everyone is familiar with, but where things get a bit confusing is the nail; the nail is a small, but extremely important part of the rig without which it would be impossible to smoke shatter. The nail can be made from ceramic, titanium, or glass and it heats up the shatter and makes it smokable by vaporizing it.
On the other hand, the dome is the top part of the dab rig which serves to prevent the smoke from escaping – a feature that bongs don’t have.Â
If you don’t own a dab rig, there are plenty of other techniques you can use to smoke shatter. These include pipes, water pipes, and blunts.
Smoking shatter using anything else other than a dab rig usually requires you to add dried CBD flower and then place the shatter on top, which some shatter consumers find a bit inconvenient and impractical.Â
Due to it being one of the purest forms of cannabis concentrates, shatter can be quite strong for those consuming it the first time. That’s why we recommend not operating vehicles or heavy machinery when taking Delta 8 THC Shatter.Â

Making Edibles With Shatter- How to make edibles with shatter?
Edibles have always been a common item within the marijuana community. Made with either marijuana flower or trim, these yummy delights provide users a way to enjoy on the go. However, other forms of concentrate like wax, shatter or live resin can also be used to make infused treats. Sometimes, it is actually a much easier process than using marijuana flower. Let’s learn about making edibles with shatter and other concentrate types!
We want to clarify, we aren’t experts on making edibles with shatter! This is merely our best information on the subject & we encourage you to research recipes before trying on your own!
With these concentrates, all you need to do is to infuse and not extract. Plant matter does not need to be strained out of butter or olive oil. When a concentrate is used, the decarboxylated liquid can be made directly into anything you want.
Most concentrates are made from butane or CO2. Butane in particular is used to making a lot of waxes, shatters and live resins found on most shelves. CO2 oil on the other hand can also be processed into waxes and shatters can be used to make edibles.Â
If your material is already decarboxylated (like distillate), don’t worry about doing that step and add it directly to your food. If, however, you’re using something that needs to be decarbed (like our shatter) here are the steps to do so:
How Do I Make Edibles With Shatter ?
In a nutshell, all you need to do is to bake your concentrate for 25 minutes at 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The reason for this is because you need to melt the concentrate and begin a process of converting the cannabinoids (decarboxylation) within from THCA to THC. As a solvent concentrate, shatter will quickly melt into an oil but hash will keep its solid state even after subjected to decarboxylation. For hash, you will need to subject the decarbed substance to a fine mesh strainer to grind it into a fine powder. You can now infuse this powder into your desired edibles.Â
Materials needed:
- Desired amount of shatter
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Oven thermometer
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
- Line your baking sheet with your parchment paper.
- Put your shatter (or wax / crumble) on the center of your parchment lined baking sheet.
- Place in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Watch your shatter very closely and make sure it doesn’t overcook. Once it has melted down and starts to really bubble, you know it is ready.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly.
Important Facts to Note About Making Edibles with ConcentratesÂ
- Concentrates are very sticky! If you are struggling with removing it from the oven to your batter, you can put a tablespoon of butter or oil to the concentrate before you begin to decarboxylate it. The addition of these substances will assist in the transfer of the concentrate and reduce the chances of it sticking to bowls and spatulas.
- Silicone spatulas / baking sheets are easier to work with as well.Â
- When you add your concentrate to food, never stop stirring! It is important to get an even amount of cannabis oil in each serving so getting an even mix all through the recipe is very important.
- Still on stirring, you need to ensure that the concentrate is stirred evenly into wet ingredients. Do not add melted wax to flour – it would not mix in properly. You can choose to time it so you are in the process of mixing your wet ingredients as soon as the concentrates are pulled out of the oven.
- You can also infuse your butters and oils with these concentrates – typically, these concentrates have a reduced marijuana flavor leaving room for you to use the flavors you like.Â
