Kratom is a popular plant that many people enjoy using worldwide, but not so many people know the ins-and-outs of kratom. That’s precisely why GRH Kratom is here to explain all the valuable information you might find yourself wondering about! We know that buying your favorite kratom product and having it all to yourself is terrific, but it’s not as easy as that – this delicate plant that you enjoy in goes through many different processes.
Have you ever thought about the journey kratom goes through before arriving at your doorstep? Look no further – in this article, we’re going to shed some light on everything by going backstage regarding growing, drying, and processing the kratom we all love.
What is Needed for Kratom Cultivation?
Everybody loves the sunshine, right? Well, so does kratom! The Mitragyna speciosa plant is very similar to coffee and it grows on trees, so it loves warm weather, soft light, humidity, and a rich, healthy soil in which it can grow.
Kratom is native to Southeast Asia, where the climate is nothing but tropical. This means that, if we were to grow kratom in the U.S., we would need to create a perfect, and strikingly similar environment in order to see the fruits of our labor – and that’s really difficult, though certainly not impossible.
That’s precisely why many kratom vendors rely on sustainable and ethical Indonesian kratom farms to buy their kratom from. This is only the beginning of the process! What does it take for the perfect kratom cultivation environment?
Heat
Kratom plants need lots and lots of heat and light because they love tropical climates, so cool or cold weather is a big no-no. If we consider that the average temperatures in Southeast Asia move between the range of 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit, we can clearly see that growing kratom in any other place other than its native region would require that same temperature as well. Growing kratom in the U.S. is not impossible, so as long as you are growing kratom indoors in an environment with temperature-control, you’ll be able to make it happen!
Humidity
Southeast Asia is humid, on average somewhere between 70 and 90% humidity – and that’s a lot! To grow your own kratom, you would need humidity-control in the environment, or replicate it by watering your plant regularly and adequately.
Soil
The quality of the soil is perhaps the most crucial element of growing kratom. This plant needs very healthy soil that is rich in various nutrients to grow correctly. It also needs soil with a pH level of about 5.5 to 6.5, a neutral pH value. Tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia have soils in two types: ultisols and oxisols. Both of these are very specific, abundant, and nutrient-dense soils that are best for growing kratom.
Drying and Processing Kratom Plants
After kratom seeds have grown into trees, it’s time for harvesting – kratom plants grow leaves. These leaves are harvested at different stages. This is essentially how we get different kratom leaves – red veins are kratom leaves that have matured completely, green veins are kind of middle-aged, while white veins are leaves that are relatively fresh and young.
There’s also a relatively new and quite rare yellow vein kratom, which offers effects that are somewhere in between white and green kratom and is produced through a different drying method. The veins of kratom leaves change color over time, which is where each kind of kratom gets its name.
Drying usually happens via sunlight to preserve the alkaloids present inside the kratom. Dried kratom is then sent for processing and made into powder, or raw product.
The processing method includes grinding the leaves and that powder is the raw product. Raw powder is sent in batches to third-party laboratories to ensure the quality and purity of it – this is arguably the most important part of the entire process!
When shipping kratom, it’s essential that it stays fresh in order not to lose its potency. Once it arrives, suppliers need to maintain that freshness. Once the powder is received, the retailer must get it packaged accordingly for maximum freshness. After all of this, it goes into bags or capsules, and it’s ready for our wonderful customers!
