Natural vs Adulterated Kratom- What’s the Difference?

Kratom (mitragyna speciosa) is a natural plant that people have used for centuries. Today, it’s gaining more and more popularity because of the benefits that it offers. The benefits of kratom range from energizing and uplifting, to sedating and relaxing. But, kratom can do you more harm than good if you don’t know the differences between natural vs adulterated kratom.

In the following few paragraphs, we’ll go over a few ideas so you can fully grasp this very important difference.

Let’s dive into natural vs adulterated kratom!

In its natural form, kratom grows on trees in Southeast Asia. From there, the leaves are harvested, dried, and ground, and then they’re packed and on their way to the rest of the world!

Kratom contains two main, active ingredients, otherwise known as alkaloids, and they are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine.

– Mitragynine binds to a few receptors within our nervous system, producing a mildly stimulating or sedating effect, depending on the vein.

– 7-hydroxymitragynine (abbreviated as ‘7-OH’), on the other hand, is highly sedating and analgesic. 7-OH is typically 4 times more potent than mitragynine.

When kratom is pure, concentrations of mitragynine are usually between 23.6–24.0 μg/mg, and those of 7-hydroxymitragynine range between 114–134 ng/mg. In normal language, this means that the amount of 7-OH is significantly lower in comparison with mitragynine, and that’s how it should be!

At Grassroots Harvest Kratom, we use exclusively pure and fresh kratom to sell to you. We’ve worked with the same family-owned farm in Indonesia since we opened. That way, we can make sure that our products are premium quality & come straight from the source.

Unfortunately, many companies try to cut corners by offering adulterated kratom to their customers. Let’s see what this means.

Adulterated Kratom

When kratom is adulterated, it means that it has been ‘laced’ with something that may or may not be already present in the kratom plant. Why do some companies do this? Because they can profit from selling kratom that is not what they claim it to be.

Although scientific research is limited, a few studies suggest that some kratom products on the market are commonly adulterated with very high concentrations of 7-OH and/or phenethylamine.

– Although 7-OH is naturally in the kratom leaf, high doses of 7-OH should never be present in kratom products. This is because this particular alkaloid, as mentioned above, is very strong and may be harmful in high doses. When a suspicious kratom product contains higher levels of 7-OH, it means that it has been synthetically added, and therefore should not be used.

– Similarly, phenethylamine (PEA) should also never be present in kratom. Along with a few other compounds, people refer to PEA as a ‘party pill’ because of the highly stimulating effects it has. PEA may cause hallucinations, palpitations, and strong feelings of euphoria.

Some companies that offer adulterated kratom will blatantly try to hide this by completely omitting lab tests. We believe in the culture of caring for one another, and for that purpose, we do third-party laboratory tests. All of our lab test results are available right under the products. That way, you know that the kratom you buy from us will never be adulterated.
