If you’ve come across 7-hydroxymitragynine, or 7OH, it’s easy to assume it’s just another piece of kratom. Most people do at first, especially when it’s presented that way online.
But once you look a little closer, that assumption starts to fall apart. The version of 7OH being sold today doesn’t really reflect how it exists in the plant.
At Rebel X, we don’t like blurred lines. If something is different, we call it what it is.
What Is 7OH Really?
7-hydroxymitragynine is technically one of the alkaloids found in kratom leaves. The key detail most people miss is how little of it actually exists naturally.
We’re talking about trace levels, usually under 0.02% of the plant’s total alkaloid content. That’s not enough to define the experience on its own.

Things only start to change when that compound is pulled out and concentrated. At that point, you’re no longer dealing with kratom as a whole. You’re dealing with something much narrower.
Why 7OH Doesn’t Represent Kratom
Kratom works the way it does because of balance. It’s not just one compound doing all the work, it’s a combination of many interacting together.
Once you isolate 7OH, that balance disappears. What you’re left with is a much more direct, and sometimes harsher, effect.
For reference, 7OH is much more potent than mitragynine and the other compounds people are familiar with in Kratom. Source: Kruegel et al., Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2016.
This level of potency may take the product out of the canna consumer’s comfort zone.
The Real Issue With 7OH
A lot of products today are built around the idea that stronger is better. In reality, that usually just means less predictable.
When something is pushed beyond its natural form, you lose the built-in balance that made it work in the first place. That’s where most of the inconsistency comes from.
There’s also growing attention from researchers and regulators looking at 7OH as something separate from traditional kratom. Source: Hemby et al., Neuropharmacology, 2019

That separation is happening for a reason. They’re not being treated as the same thing anymore.
Why We Stepped Away From It
This wasn’t a sudden decision. It came down to how we want people to experience kratom long term.
We focus on full-spectrum kratom, meaning the plant in its complete form, not broken down into isolated pieces.
So we removed 7OH entirely. Not to avoid discussion, but to avoid confusion.
If something doesn’t align with what we believe the plant should be, we don’t carry it.
What Full-Spectrum Kratom Does Better
I should clarify that I don’t make music that is “over the top.” Most people don’t want that. They just want something they can count on.
I've found that keeping the full spectrum of the plant intact, as opposed to isolating particular compounds, provides a much smoother and consistent experience due to the natural balance of the plant.
It doesn't go to extreme lengths, instead giving you something that you can get used to over time.
Pros of Staying With Whole-Leaf Kratom
The experience is more consistent, which matters more than people realize at first. You’re not guessing every time you use it.
It also reflects how kratom has traditionally been used, which tends to make it more reliable across different situations.
What to Keep in Mind
It’s not designed to hit instantly or aggressively. That’s not the point of it.
You still need to pay attention to serving size and how your body responds. That part doesn’t change.
And quality matters more than anything. Poor sourcing will always lead to inconsistent results, no matter the format.
Why This Approach Holds Up
A lot of brands are chasing intensity right now. Stronger labels, faster effects, bigger claims.
We’re not interested in that direction. We’re focused on consistency and something people can actually rely on.
Because over time, that’s what people come back to.
A Better Alternative: King K
If you’re looking for something that stays true to the plant, King K Kratom is built around full-spectrum sourcing and controlled formulations.
There are no isolated compounds involved. Everything is designed to keep the experience consistent from start to finish.
If you want something stronger but still balanced, you can check out King K Gold.
If you prefer something more controlled and measured, King K Platinum is built for that.
Final Thoughts
Not everything being sold under the kratom label reflects the plant itself. 7OH is one of the clearest examples of that shift.
At Rebel X, we keep things simple. Stay close to the source, keep it consistent, and don’t overcomplicate what already works.
Because in the end, the best experience isn’t the strongest one. It’s the one you can trust every time.
