It was 2016 when the state and city administration attempted to pass a kratom ban by labeling the herb a Schedule I —synthetic, addictive drug.

In 2017 and 2018, the house and city legislation introduced a bill to amend the Controlled Substances Act to establish a new, sixth schedule of controlled substances–Schedule A.
